Studying and learning patience...

Another week has come and gone! Monday we had dinner with the Gray's and then had FHE with them and the Hafen's! That was fun! and then Tuesday we went to the food pantry! Lots of chicken to bag and freeze! and blueberries! So that was exciting! then we did Mormon.org and then came home and we were doing our studies and then there was a knock at our door! It was Marsha and Helmar! They wanted to take us to the beach! So we went with them to York and walked on the beach for a little bit and then went and got ice cream :) Then we went to the Hafen's and dinner with them and Kristy and her little girl :) Wednesday we went to district meeting and then went to Orange Leaf with the sister training leaders :) Then we came back, did bingo and then had bible study that night and also did a little street contacting! Thursday we walked to some less actives and then did some street contacting! Then we went and had dinner with Brenda and some of her friends! She made us a traditional English dinner! and then after that we went to the Grays and had a lesson with Steve! Talked about prophets and commandments :) He's still doing great and hoping to get his work schedule worked out soon....

Friday we did weekly planning and then we went and saw the Foggs! Then we didn't really have any set things so we decided to head out to Durham and went and contacted a referral and then went and met a new family the Crosby's that moved in a few weeks ago! Then we decided to treat ourselves and went to Olive Garden for dinner :) Saturday we did some street contacting in Portsmouth and we met a few really cool people that seemed interested! So that was really exciting! planting seeds.....! Then we tried to see some less actives and then went and saw Larry with Mary! Then we went to the Foggs and visited with them for a little bit and then we had some more time and decided to call Bro Turley! His wife is not a member and has had missionaries over before but isn't very interested...but we thought we would give it a try! he said we could stop by so we went and shared a message with them! She still doesn't seem too interested but one day she will! Brother Turley was so cute though...he said it's the end of the month and you know what that means... Then he gave us two grocery bags full of food and snacks! haha :) then we went home and had dinner and then worked on updating records for the last bit of the night! Sunday we had church and choir practice then lunch and then we went and saw Brother Momna! We sat out on his porch and he talked and talked! He has some good stories! This time he got it back on topic and told us his version of Joseph Smith and the first vision :) It was fun how he would tell it and talk about the "wicked white light" that Joseph saw and he just had all these details and then we would just help him fill in the parts he had forgotten or names of people :) He told us that he really enjoys us coming over and that we are softening him and he knows he needs to come back to church! :D ahhh! that was awesome! I asked him how we could help him and he said he's just stubborn... so we're gonna get him there soon :)

So that was our week! We are still trying to find more people to teach! It's a little slow goin...and our whole district is kind of having a hard time with finding investigators and productive things to do... I've been studying about patience and about waiting on the Lord and learned some really cool things! Patience is something that I think is hard for most everyone...it's definitely hard for me and is something I've been working on for a while and trying to have more of! I found a cool quote about patience "Patience is a purifying process that refines understanding, deepens happiness, focuses action and offers hope for peace." I like that it says that it's a process! Patience takes patience...haha but then thinking about that and waiting on the Lord and going along with having a hard time finding people and knowing that it's gonna take patience it's really helped studying about it and remembering again that we are at least planting seeds and we just have to do the best we can even if we don't see the fruits of our labors! I found a talk from Elder Hales called "Waiting Upon the Lord: Thy Will Be Done" and it talked a lot about patience and then something stuck out to me as it talked about waiting on the Lord. It said that in the scriptures wait means to hope, to anticipate and to trust. So it requires faith, patience, humility, meekness, long-suffering, keeping the commandments, and enduring to the end. It requires that we do something! We can't just sit around doing nothing but waiting, we have to do our part of course! But then I thought about the word wait and other meaning that it can have and thought of a waiter in a restaurant and how they wait on us and serve us food.... so thinking how it tells us to wait on the Lord we need to serve him! It just gave me a new perspective as I read through the talk again and whenever it said to wait on the Lord I thought about it saying to serve the Lord. It talked a lot about the Savior and how he did God's will. He waited upon his Father. He was always serving others! and it's said in the scriptures "inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." So as we serve those around us we are serving God and waiting upon Him! I love the scripture Psalms 27:14 that says "Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait I say on the Lord." I know that it may take time and patience and a lot of work but we will find those who are being prepared! I know that he will strengthen us and give us the courage we need even when things are hard and we have to wait.... we just have to look at it in a different way and truly wait on the Lord, love Him and serve Him and
rust in Him. :) Love you lots! Have a wonderful week and just wait til next Monday ;)

Small miracles, Pie social (yum!), Footprints, Newspapers, Looking for people, Kind of a slow week...

Alrighty so I feel like it was kind of one of those long dragging weeks...trying to find things to do and people to teach and stuff... but it was still a good week! :) Monday after emails we went to Walmart and there was this guy named Chris selling newspapers and he was trying to get us to buy one but then instead we started talking about the gospel! :) He saw our tags and asked who we were and so I explained that we were missionaries! After talking to us for a bit he said well do you want a free newspaper so you can at least know what's going on in the world? so then I told him that we don't read the newspaper while we're missionaries so then that led to a whole bunch of other questions! We talked to him for a while and he said that he wants to learn more! The only problem is that he travels a lot around New England for his job but he said he'll call us when he's back in Portsmouth in a few weeks so he can hopefully come to church and meet with us! :) we went to the Gray's for dinner and fhe!

Tuesday we went to Footprints and good news! This transfer we have interviews and zone conference that are non Wednesday meetings so we'll get to help out at the food pantry on Wednesdays a few times! They are so excited about that :) We also saw Brenda and we finished up the plan of salvation pamphlet with her! We always have a good time when we go over to Brenda's! And she is just so awesome and sharing it with her friends :) Such a good missionary :) then we went and had dinner with the Hafens!

Wednesday we had district meeting with our new district! fun fun! then we called bingo and then went and had coordination with Bro Hafen! Then we had the Bible study which was really good! and Steve was able to come! After we had a lesson with him and talked about the importance of church, prayer, and studying the scriptures :) He told us how he just feels comfort when he reads the Book of Mormon...the spirit! and just loves feeling that and knows it's true :) ahhhhh!! :) so wonderful :)

Thursday we went and saw Sister Bromfield! We read the Book of Mormon with her and then went out to her garden and got some vegetables and she shared some blueberries that she went and picked :) Then our other appointment fell through so we tried to see some formers close by but nobody wanted to answer... :/ later we went and had dinner with the Udy's! and then after that we went and saw another less active Kristy! we had stopped by earlier and she said we could come back later! She is really cool! She's from Utah so it was fun to talk to her! It was really cool how grateful she was that we had stopped by and she said she was surprised that she told us to come back but was really happy that we did and she felt the spirit :)

Friday we did our weekly planning and then went and tried to see some people...but it was another one of those days when nobody wanted to answer their doors... lame.... we got to have a quick visit with the Foggs but even they were busy! haha so then we ended up going to the young women activity! They were having a sleepover at the Udy's and we crashed their party and ate pizza with them! so that was fun :)

Saturday we got up and headed to the Grace's to help them pack up cuz they are moving to Oxford! There was a good turn out of people from the ward there! That was fun! then we came home and changed, studied, had lunch and made a blueberry pie! We went and took some to Larry because it was his birthday! We had to cancel our appointment because we didn't have a "chaperone" as he calls it....haha but we stopped by and gave him the pie and he was so happy! He said we just bring joy into his life whenever he sees us :) then we took some pie to Brother Momna too and he was so happy :) then we sat out on his porch and he told us all about when he played baseball :) then he went on to the navy stories and was talking about all kinds of ships...so we brought it back to the gospel with talking about Nephi building a ship! :) So then he told us the whole story of Nephi and Laman and Lemuel :) it was awesome :) then we went and had dinner with the Hafen's again :)

Sunday, oh I have a quick story to tell you about how miracles happen and prayer works! :) So yesterday we got up and were getting ready to go to PEC and so I go to dry my hair...and my blow dryer won't start... uh oh... so I tried a different outlet and still no luck... and bad news sister beus doesn't have a blow dryer...I made her try it and it wouldn't work! so I grabbed the portable fan and started drying my hair with that...haha but that was going to take forever!!!! so I said a prayer and went back and said okay one more time.... I plugged it in and guess what...it worked! just long enough for me to dry my hair!! phew!! dry hair and we made it on time to the meeting :) Heavenly Father hears our prayers! even for just a silly little thing like my blow dryer..haha he answers prayers and is always there for us if we turn to Him and have faith! :) So we had church and it was really good we had Brother and Sister Wood come and speak! He was in the quorum of the seventy and then they were the temple president and matron at the boston temple for a few years! So they spoke all about service and shared experiences that they've had serving in the church! It was really neat :) they spoke in sacrament meeting and then we had a combined third hour and they were in charge of that too! :) Then we had choir and then we went to the Gong's for lunch! Then we went and had a quick visit with Brenda :) and then went to the Reeve's house for the pie social! :) it was our ward and the Exeter ward was invited! Sister Reeve made 47 pies!! there was like every kind imaginable!!! it was delicious :) So that was super fun! now we need to go run a million miles though after eating all that...haha so maybe that's what we'll do today ;) mmmm but probably not...haha but I do need to go buy a new blow dryer..haha... love you all so much!! have a great week! back to school!?! :) oh manny!! have fun with that :) LOVE YOU!

Missed you all, I love to see the temple, transfer calls but not for us, faith is like a seed...

Holy cow! It's been forever!! haha! man... I don't like not being able to email for so long! a lot can happen in just two weeks!!! It's a whole new transfer now haha! But it was so worth it not being able to email last week because instead we got to spend the day at the temple!!!!!! I have a lot to tell you...I don't even know where to begin! haha....well I might as well just tell you some of the most important things first! It was transfer calls this past Saturday... and good news we are both staying!!! But everyone else in our district got a call! So we're getting a new zone leader, a new co-district leader, and a new sister training leader! Sister Sowards is leaving me!! :( But good news I'm going to have a sister!!! :D haha! She's training again! So that's pretty exciting :)

Okay I'll just go really fast through everything that's happened! so rewinding back to Monday...July 28...the last time I emailed... after emails we went home and filled up water balloons and then went to Exeter for district pday! It was District Olympics again! and our event was a water balloon toss.... :) We did and obstacle course, chubby bunny, frozen shirt contest and a few other games! It was lots of fun and the elders made awesome shirts for everyone! personalized and everything! haha mine was the best #iscreamforicecream so we had lots of fun there! then after that we went and had dinner and FHE with the Grays! Tuesday we went to the footprints and then we saw sister bock! And we had dinner with Sister Bromfield that night and she made us blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup :) and then sent us home with a bunch of groceries and tons of summer squash from her garden! she's so funny :) Wednesday we had district meeting then bingo then coordination and then bible study! Oh yeah this was a sad night...well we were at bible study and Steve came which was awesome! But he was talking to us and said that he just got a new job and has a crazy schedule now...he has to work sundays 7-12 :( He was so disappointed and we were pretty sad about it too but it was a blessing that he got this new job! So that was hard...but the lesson was all about miracles! So we now that miracles happen and that he will still be able to get baptized! It was cool to hear him talk about how he feels it's a miracle that all this has happened and that we've been able to teach him and all the friends he's made and that he wants to get baptized! He is just so prepared! Hopefully things will all get worked out! I know he will get baptized eventually! It's just the timing now...but "faith in God includes faith in God's timing" :) so we just got to remember that :) Also with Tori because we were going to meet with her that night but she got poison ivy :( and she just has a lot going on in her life right now and we can't seem to find a time to meet! But I know that will all work out it God's timing too cuz she is so ready and prepared also!

Thursday we had a great lesson with Brenda and Georgia one of the young women who is now a ward missionary came with us! We went over the first half of the plan of salvation and then Brenda wanted me to cut her hair! bahahahah! that was fun...I had no clue what I was doing! But she couldn't see cuz her bangs or "fringe" were covering her eyes! So I just went for it! haha it was really funny! Then we went and had dinner with the Keenes! and had a new member lesson with them and went over the gospel of Jesus Christ! Friday we went and saw some less actives and then that night we had dinner with the Regans! And they always take us to the beach since they're so close! So we went to the beach and we all drew out the plan of salvation in the sand! :) then we stopped by the lighthouse which was all lit up and had a Christmas tree in the window for Chirstmas in July!! :) and then had ice cream :) Saturday we saw some more less actives! Larry and Brother Momna! I just love Brother Momna! He asked us if we could bring him some more tithing slips and envelopes next time because he said he still sends his tithing every month! How awesome is that! I just love him! Then we had dinner with the Vaillincourts! and church on sunday and then we were asked to speak at the singles break the fast! haha there were like 9 people there just some of the single sisters in our ward and a few from other wards in the stake! They told us we could pick anything to speak about! So we had dinner with all of them and then we made it into more of a discussion than talks :) I didn't know what we were going to talk about though so we when I was studying I prayed to come up with something to speak about and then I opened up the ensign that was sitting on my desk and it was a conference talk called "faith is the answer" :D haha! so I spoke about faith! There was one thing that I shared that they all loved...maybe I've told you this already but it's cool enough to tell you again... haha so I read Alma 32:28 and it talks about how faith is like a seed! :) I love this! But it tells us four things that faith will do... it will Swell within you, Enlarge your soul, Enlighten your understanding, and be Delicious to you. So what does that spell Swell, Enlarge, Enlighten, Delicious... Seed! :D no way right?! haha :) I thought that was pretty awesome :) And I just love how faith really is like a seed! We have to plant it, and nourish it if we want it to grow! And then it grows into this big amazing tree! I related it to each of us and how we take time and learn line upon line, precept on precept, and have to keep doing the things that will help us grow and strengthen our testimonies and the potential that we have and all that we can become! :)

Then last Monday was really kind of weird because it wasn't pday for us! We did some street contacting in the morning and then we had a lesson with sister Bromfield and read the Book of Mormon! She wasn't able to come to the break the fast and was sad she missed our talks so we shared those with her too :) then we had dinner and FHE with the Grays again :) Tuesday we went to the footprints and thenMormon.org time and then some street contacting and then dinner with sister seamons! :) Then we had district meeting on Wednesday and then we went on exchanges! Sister Beus went to Exeter with Sister Sowards and Sister Kotter came to Portsmouth with me! :) We went and called bingo and then had dinner, then coordination then bible study! Thursday we had a great day we went to breakfast with Marsha and Helmar! then we went and had a lesson with the Keenes and then Morgan had fun painting our nails :) then we stopped by the lighthouse and had lunch then we went and helped Sister Grace at a soup kitchen for a little bit! :) then we went to Brenda's and had dinner with her and her friend Jo!! And then we played scrabble :) and also got in a quick message! We shared one of my favorite scriptures Alma 37:36-37 and talked about prayer :) After that we drove to Exeter and had a sleepover with the four of us sisters! So much fun!! :) then we got up and went to the temple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! Best day ever!! :) It was so amazing! We got there and guess how lucky this is.... Sister Gish the relief society president took us and was going to the sealing of one of her previous young women... and then you'll never guess who was there! Sister Brooks and Sister Kanewske and the Barkers!! They were all there for the groom! :D So that was so much fun to see all of them :) Then we took lots of pictures and then went to five guys for lunch! The traffic was crazy in Massachusetts so that's why it took forever to get home and we didn't have time to email! But we had time to do some street contacting and then went to Orange Leaf just to top it off :) And then Saturday we did our weekly planning and it was a perfect day so we did it outside :) then we had dinner with the Millets and got to have dessert with her in-laws who live next door! and they let us share a message - we decided to share about faith again and it was really cool because she said it was the perfect message and just what they needed and said we could come back again :) then we all had cake and she had decorated a cute sunflower cake...coincidence? I think not... it just went perfect with our seed and flower faith message :) haha! Then sunday we had church and then choir practice! oh yeah I'm the temporary choir pianist! So that's fun :) Sister Gray is the choir director and she invited Steve to come! So he came and will hopefully be able to come to church when we do the musical number :) After that we went and saw larry and then we went to Mary's and had ice cream with her and Mandy :) then we went and saw brother momna and then we had dinner with the Smiths! and then did street contacting the rest of the night :)

So! I think that was mostly everything we did! haha! at least the quick version of it.... haha...so here we go! onto another great transfer with lots of wonderful adventures to come!!! Hope you all have a groovy week ;) LOVE YOU!!
